Aquatic Discovery's Spring Break trip to Belize! Sunday 3/23/08 - We met at the shop at 9 and were off to sfo by 9:45. There were lots of problems getting Sarah on the plane but we eventually all made it to the boarding area. Hooray! Monday 3/24/08 - Our plane was supposed to leave at 1:40am but didn't actually leave until 3:30am. Food and many bathrooms closed at 1 so we were all pretty tired and I was starving. Because of the delay, we missed our connecting flight in San Salvador so TACA put us up in the Real InterContinental San Salvador and fed us. There was eating, drinking and napping. Our luggage didn't make it, so some of us made it to the mall across the street for a cheap change of clothes and entertainment.
Tuesday 3/25/08 - We got up at 5ish for the super fancy buffet breakfast, checked out and hopped the bus to the airport at 6:30. We flew from El Salvador to Belize city; our luggage even made it! Mayu had a delay with customs so the rest of the group headed to Ambergris Caye while I waited for her. We eventually all made it to the island. The rest of the group had gone to the grocery store and stocked up on essentials. We showered and put on clean clothes, chatted with our dive crew at Chuck & Robbie's, had lunch and drinks at Wet Willy's, took naps then had pasta for dinner. Some of us went on a search for ice cream. Marc found Waraguma and got a pupusa.
Wednesday 3/26/08 - We got up at 7 and some of the guys made us an awesome breakfast of pancakes and spam. We headed to the boat at 8:15, got fitted for gear then headed out. First dive was at tuffy canyon. After, we came back to the dock and swapped out tanks. Second dive was at esmerelda. Lots of sharks and fish. After diving we showered, some folks hung out by the pool and some of us went to lunch at Wet Willy's. We took more naps then most of the group went out for a night dive. We had dinner at Waraguma, frozen custard at DandE's then went to Wet Willy's for ladies night.
Thursday 3/27/08 - Jeremy and Marc made us scrabled eggs, bacon and sausage. We did 3 dives - after the first they dropped Sarah, colby and I off at a dock then did the second dive. The water was really choppy. After the second dive they picked us up and took us all to the beach for a tasty BBQ. The guys unsuccessfully tried to open coconuts. We saw a lizard catch a fly. We went back to the dock to swap out tanks and most of the group did a third dive while everyone else hung out. Dinner was at Elvi's and we got frozen custard after.
Friday 3/28/08 - Pancakes for breakfast then we were off to the airport for the belize zoo and cave tubing. Both were pretty cool. After we got home, raj, jeremy and I had iced teas at Wild Mangos. We hung out in Ross's room, played cards then had dinner at Pasta la Vista. The kids all went to bed and our room stayed up playing hearts and drinking. About the zoo/tubing trip - bring tevas and a change of clothes. Bugs weren't a problem.
Saturday 3/29/08 - We had breakfast then headed over to the boat. We dove eagle ray canyon and saw lots of eagle rays and 2 turtles. Sarah saw a whale shark when she was hanging out on the boat. We snorkled shark ray alley for about an hour, relaxed and drank beer and rum punch. We motored to Caye Caulker and had lunch at Rasta Pasta - lots of burritos and tostadas and massive portions - yum! On the way back we ran out of gas but still made it back in time for a group to go parasailing. Folks settled their bills at the dive shop. Dinner was at Wild Mangos. Some folks went to Fido's after dinner to continue the drinking.
Sunday 3/30/08 - We had biscuits with bacon for breakfast. Everyone except Jeremy, Hilary and Duke went to Lamanai - flight to Orange Walk, van to the river, ride down the river (we saw a crocodile and lots of birds) then we ended at Lamanai. The tour was cool - lots of stuff to see. They brought us delicious food- chicken, rice & beans, papayas, plantains, yum! Jeremy, Hilary and Duke went fishing and caught an obscene amount of fish. Jeremy made us a fantastic fish dinner.
Monday 3/31/08 - We woke up without an alarm but were still up before 8. We dropped off the leftover fish at Chuck & Robbie's. Breakfast was at Estele's. After, we went souvenir shopping then showered, packed and got ready to go home. We met our taxi at 1:15, our plane left at 2. We flew from San Pedro > Belize intl > San Salvador > SFO.
